Nichola Harris

Design & Creativity • Top Girl

British-born, New York-centric designer Nichola Harris has spent over two decades immersed in headwear design from concept to production. With 20 years at Kangol, Nichola used her extensive technical and production knowledge to re-engineer headwear construction and develop top-selling collections that fused cutting edge fashion with efficient and optimal manufacturing.

Nichola honed her skills at the University of Huddersfield in the UK, completing a Bachelor of Science in Textile Design specialising in Knitted Fabric Design.

With the expertise gained in university, Nichola began a career at Kangol in the UK, later transferring to the New York office as Design Director for the Kangol brand. Here, Nichola expanded Kangol's partnerships and designed collaborations with designer houses and artists alike, including Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, Stussy, Comme des Garçons, Bathing Ape, Disney, Markus Lupfer, Fragment and Hiroshi Fujiwara, SSUR, Colette and Cool Cats, Alife, Patta, WeSC, Jeff Staple, D*Face, Nick Walker and INSA.

Branded headwear is often generic in its construction & fabrication, with only the logo to differentiate it. Nichola adds considered brand-specific designs to your collection to increase sales and customer loyalty.

Design clients include Stetson, lululemon and Gymshark.

Nichola studied lululemon's established design handwriting and learned its proprietary fabric and construction techniques' characteristics and properties. This knowledge enabled her to design the revolutionary Surroundstretch™ construction, with performance to match the lululemon brand: 4 Way Stretch for Complete Comfort, Hugged Sensation, Zero Distraction Seams and 360 Degree Sweat Wicking. Creating a revolutionary new baseball.

Nichola is currently designing accessories for Gymshark, including headwear, socks, gloves & scarves. She was involved with the design & development of the Seamless Hijab to build communities and make exercise accessible to everyone.
